Getting Off to a Great Start: The New Nonprofit Organization
THIS WORKSHOP HAS BEEN CANCELLED.
Presenter/facilitator: Vivian Mills, Coordinator, Nonprofit Institute
The inspiration to start a nonprofit organization is almost always triggered by recognition of a need or problem in the community that is not being met or perhaps not met well enough. Whether the issue has to do with health, housing, jobs, the arts, education, the environment, or some other area, the moment of inspiration often leads to the resolve to do something. If you are such a person, or if you are already involved in an effort still in its formative stages, this workshop is designed for you. It will walk you through the necessary steps, from getting incorporated to writing bylaws and essential policies, assembling a board of directors, and applying to the IRS for tax-exempt charitable status.
A founder herself of several successful nonprofit enterprises, the presenter has spent her entire career in the nonprofit field, in both executive and volunteer leadership positions. In her work over twenty years as an independent consultant, she helped scores of organizations improve their effectiveness and performance. Since early 2013, she directed her energies toward building the capacity of the Nonprofit Institute to serve the region's nonprofit community.
